Tracking and Testing - the Solution to Attracting More Visitors

Every serious online business owner eats, sleeps and breaths
targeted traffic to their website. They spend the most money and
time trying to attract first-time visitors to their sites in
hopes of generating new sales and subscribers. But, believe it
or not, it’s easier to increase your income by simply selling
more of the visitors you already get than trying to chase down
more traffic.
The solution? Tracking & testing! Probably the most overlooked
and underutilized, but certainly the most powerful strategy for
increasing sales and opt-in subscriptions. If you spend any time
or money on advertising, you must start testing and tracking.
Simply put, “tracking” means you measure the effectiveness of
each individual advertising source you use to promote your
business.
For example, if you advertise in email newsletters, you should
know how effective each newsletter ad rates compared to all the
others in terms of sales and subscribers generated. This enables
you to know whether an ad makes or loses money. Testing means
you constantly look for ways to improve your ads in small,
incremental amounts that add up over time.
The most common (and effective) tests you can run are A-B split
tests, which pit two variables against each other to determine
which converts more lookers into buyers. Split testing headlines,
price points, and guarantee periods make, from my experience,
the best places to start testing.
The reason testing and tracking can double your profits (or more)
lies in the power of small, incremental improvements. Lets say,
for example, you decide to do a series of split tests on a
website that currently converts 1 in every 100 visitors (1%
conversion). You test, headline, price, guarantee and a payment
plan. If each of the 4 tests yields a .25% increase in
conversion, you would not see an increase in sales to 2% (4x.25%)
, but actually an increase to almost 2.5% since each improvement
builds on the last!
The most basic tool in testing and tracking revolves around the
use of advertising link tracker software. These tools measure
the number of clicks on individual advertisements (text links,
banners, pay-per-click ads, etc) and then measure sales or
subscriptions generated as a result.
You get two choices with link trackers: a hosted service or
software you install on your own server. A hosted service offers
the advantage of easy setup and use. Most of the time you just
sign up for the service, enter the link you want to track, get
your tracking code, and you’re off to the races.
The disadvantage of a hosted service is that, if it gets abused,
using the URL of the service in your links can get your emails
blocked or your pages banned by search engines. The advantage of
hosting the software on your own server is that you maintain a
higher degree of technical control and can avoid the banning
issues. The main disadvantage of hosting it yourself involves
the fact that you really don’t have anyone to call for help if
something goes wrong.
One of the most popular hosted link trackers online is
HyperTracker.com, though I’ve not used the service. My favorite
link tracker is actually part of an integrated e-commerce system
at http://www.MysiteSales.com. This service enables you to track
your sales and subscriptions made through the shopping cart.
Two options for software you install on your own server are
Dynatracker.com and ProAnalyzer.com. Both provide decent link
tracking, though no system I’ve tested provides 100% accurate
results. But, with that said, failure to test means you’re
leaving money on the table by wasting visitors you could
otherwise convert to buyers with basic effort at improving your
sales messages.

I probably get more questions about the plain desire to be happy
than anything else. Most people are miserable, generally.
And yes, it's horrible, but also avoidable.
I know... I was one of the biggest perpetrators of stinkin'
thinkin' you've ever met. But that simple, yet profound, shift,
when it comes over you - actually when you make it your objective
to change it - just puts a different shading on how you see nearly
every hour of your life...
Now, I'm NOT an advocate of ignoring huge challenges raining down
on you like hail. Look 'em straight on, and be honest with yourself.
Everything you experience has a value to you, whether you believe
it or not.
Problems are always opportunities. They can make you stronger.
But if you don't train your brain to view them as opportunities,
then they make you weaker. And if you don't watch out, you can
drop down to a level where everything makes you frightened and
nervous.
Take heart. Your competitors/opponents rarely make it through
all their own problems. So you are blessed every day with many
chances to get further ahead. If you live in a setting where
you don't think you compete, you're wrong...
You do compete... if not with someone else, then with yourself
to keep your moods regulated so that you can perform and respond
to situations properly. You have forces that are in your daily
environment constantly working on ruining your moods and
wrecking your performance and your motivation. The daily news,
other people... if you're an established debater, life's a
constant battle waiting to happen.
Your moods are primarily the result of what you focus on.
When I was in commissioned sales, in my car on the way to
appointments I would chant out loud, "I now command my
subconscious mind to give me the strength, the humor, the
brevity, the love, the persuasiveness... whatever it takes to
get (name) to like me and to see the value of my product and to
buy it today!" I did this for up to 15 minutes straight...
before every call... for years.
And I closed around 95% of my appointments. Ask any salesperson
you know or meet if it's possible to close 95% of their calls.
They'll say it's impossible.
In my industry, it was impossible too, but I did it.
Why?
Because when I walked in the door after chanting my mantra for
15 minutes, every fiber of my being was focused on helping this
other person. No other thoughts entered my mind. I would not
allow them to deter my focus. When you're in front of someone
who seems to be completely tuned into what you need and want,
you almost instantly like him or her...
And we buy from and are persuaded easier by people we like.
That practice helped me become the top sales executive in the
world in that industry.

your mental load, to make you smile, to help you appreciate the
little things that other people do (not just for you). If you
do, you'll feel awesome. I promise.
It's impossible to fail at this.

3 Sources of Content All Affiliates Should Use...

As an affiliate, it's critical that you have a website, though
this is usually not the hardest. The bigger challenge is that
your website needs to get traffic! So, how do you get traffic?
There is absolutely no question that the best form of traffic is
search engine traffic. Search engines can deliver highly
targeted traffic that is absolutely free.
The catch?
Well, how do you get search engines to give you traffic in the
first place? How do you convince a robotic spider that your
website deserves their attention?
One word: Content
Search engines have one primary goal: To serve their visitors
with quality content targeted to what their visitor is looking
for. A search engine is going to do anything in their power to
rank websites based on what think is relevant.
So, in the end, your real job is to find a way to convince the
search engines that your website is better suited for a topic
than another website. In other words you need to better
optimize your website for a given keyword that another website.
All in all this means that your website needs content and with
each passing day the amount of content your website needs will
be increasing. As more websites compete, the search engines are
looking for more and more content on your website.
Search engines are giving more credibility, hence traffic, to
larger websites with more updated content. They figure that if a
website has lots of pages that are constantly updated, it is a
more credible website. So, how does the little guy, an affiliate,
compete and keep their website on the top?
3 Sources of Fast and Credible Content
1. Article Directories
Many argue that article directories are bad places to get
articles from because of the ?duplicate content? penalty that
search engines may throw at you. However, what they do not
realize is that search engines penalize duplicated PAGES, not
content: there is a difference.
This means that search engines are looking for duplicate HTML
rather than duplicate articles. Common sense dictates that
certain articles and press releases may end up in multiple
places on the Internet. This has been happening since the
beginning of the Internet.
However, if HTML is duplicated, then the search engines know
that someone is trying to trick them.
Feel free to grab articles from directories, just make sure that
you are plugging these articles into your own unique HTML files:
create your own custom templates.
2. Blogs
Blogs have become extremely powerful lately, search engines are
devouring them. Why? Well blogs are short for web log, an
Internet based journal. Just the title automatically indicates
that the blog will be consistently updated.
Blogs are also very clean and simple HTML with easy to follow
navigation for search engines. If you have not yet, it is a wise
decision to launch a blog on your own website.
3. Product Reviews/Information
Many affiliates who sell physical products or have websites that
sell hundreds or thousands of websites argue that they cannot
possibly write articles to promote all the products.
So, how do you have meaningful pages of ?content? if you sell
lots of products and writing articles is too difficult?
Write product reviews or copy/paste information on that product.
If you ever search for an electronic item in the search engines,
you?ll find that the top ranking sites are not always articles
but are typically just websites that sell that product. Some of
them have reviews of the product and others just have copied and
pasted information from the company.
So, a fast way to get content is to simply borrow technical
specs and reviews on the product. But remember, put these into
your own template (since it is repeated content).

your website with many pages that search engines can index and
then refer traffic to.
