The secret science of online shopping

In theory you could create a retail web site with a
limitless selection; an online store where every kind of
merchandise known to man could be sold. Would people be
interested in buying from such a huge enterprise?
Why do people buy online?
Location: You can shop online from almost anywhere as long
as you have access to a power supply and a telephone
connection. You can shop in the comfort of your own home or
you can shop in your office. You can even shop while on the
move, if you have a laptop connected to a mobile telephone.
Convenience: You can visit a web site almost whenever you
want, you can browse through it at your own pace and you
can make a purchase at any time of day or night. The
internet makes it possible to shop 24 hours a day, seven
days a week.
Information: The internet makes limitless amounts of
product information available to the online shopper. You
can access product specifications, brochures, product
comparisons and all manner of other information with just a
few clicks. You no longer have to wait for a brochure or a
catalogue to come to you.
How do people shop online?
What are the factors that determine the buying decision?
Just like in the real world where shops are built of bricks
and mortar, the online store needs to welcome the shopper
and make them feel comfortable and safe.
Once a shopper arrives at your web site they need a little
time and space to familiarise themselves before being
bombarded with information or choices. If you put too much
information on your home page then the average shopper will
miss a large proportion of your content. Likewise, if you
present too many choices you will overwhelm the shopper and
it is very likely that they will leave straight away.
The purpose of your home page should be to simply tell the
shopper where they are and to ensure that the general
layout of your online store is easy to understand. Your
customers need to know if they are in a vast warehouse or a
small boutique! They need to know where the entrances to
each department or section are located; their question is
often quite simple how do I find what I’m looking for?
Your web site should be attractively designed, with enough
white space to make your content readable. You should
choose a web friendly font in a size that is large enough
to be read on an average monitor.
Navigation is critical. Your web site’s navigation should
be obvious; it should be laid out in a simple and logical
way. Your customer should be able to navigate within your
web site by using the navigation buttons and links that you
provide without having to use the browser back button.
Shoppers should be able to navigate inside your web site
without leaving.
Consider how you could make the online shopping experience
fun and interesting. The technology is now available to
provide live customer support; you can now guide and advice
shoppers as they browse your online store. You can add
sound to welcome people to your store or to add an audio
description to your products. You can demonstrate your
products in action using video technology.
It never ceases to amaze me just how many web sites simply
don’t work. Broken links, missing images, badly installed
scripts. Payment processing that is incorrectly configured;
too many clicks to get from the product to the checkout;
forms that require too much mandatory information. The list
of problems is endless.
Here is a simple checklist for a successful web site:
There are a number of very important factors missing from
the online shopping experience. People can’t smell the
freshness or the perfume of your product. People can’t
touch your product and they can’t feel the quality or the
texture. You must compensate for these gaps by making the
online shopping experience for your customers the best it
can be.
It is vital that you test and track your visitors’
behaviour and try to improve the experience through careful
analysis of your testing and tracking results. You have
visitors arriving. Now is the time to take action!

The Secret To Achieving Your Financial Goals

Have you ever asked yourself what your highest income producing
activity is?
If you're like most people you probably go about your day to day
business never really thinking about the moment to moment
activities that consume your day. I'd like to walk you through
an exercise that has helped me and my clients really stay
focused on earning their highest possible revenue per hour.
Let's assume that we each start with 365 days in a year. If we
take away the following:
Weekends- 104 days 5 major USA holidays 2 weeks of vacation
Personal religious holidays - (average 3)
That leaves each one of us with approximately 238 days in order
to earn the income we desire. Of course we can add or delete
days based on our own schedule and desires.
If you multiply these 238 days times an average of 10 working
hours per day, you are dealing with 2,380 hours of real work
time for the year. So let's do some math.
If your yearly income goals are as follows:
$25k = you must be earning an average of $10.50 every hour of
work.
$50K = $21 per hour
$100k = $42 per hour
$250k = $105 per hour
$1 million = $420 per hour
$5 million = $2100 per hour
$10 million = $4200 per hour
In order to earn the income per year that you really want, you
absolutely must be doing activities every hour that line up with
this chart.
If you catch yourself doing anything that isn't your absolute
highest producing income activity all the time, you are in
effect making it much harder to achieve your desired financial
goals:
What activity or activities generate your highest producing
income?
What are you spending your time doing? Are you focused on the
real money makers or the real time wasters? Are you making it
easy for yourself to be a high income earner or are you doing
the things that can be done by someone whose income goal or
ability is less than yours?
I can tell you that when you start to look at each hour this way,
you'll stop doing the small stuff and you'll start doing the
real high producing stuff that yields results.
Just look at your most recent 3-5 days and count the number of
hours you spent really making the big bucks vs all the stuff
that creeps up on all of us. What you discover will amaze you.

kinds. We can learn anything we want from it.
We can buy products and services of all types. We can shop
from the comfort of our own homes. Many people read their
daily news online rather than in the newspaper. Students
can find facts about anything their research paper requires.
That's what the Internet is all about - information. It's
not called "The Information Highway" for nothing. What a
world we live in today, huh?
The Internet is also filled with netrepreneurs who want to
build a business from home, but don't always know where to
start. They see people making money and know they can do
it, too, but don't know what product or service to offer
their customers. They want something different or unusual.
Then dare to be different! There's nothing wrong with that.
We don't all have to write the next "best marketing ebook
ever." After all, how many of those can we read? They
become repetitious after awhile.
We don't all know computer programming, so we can't create
the "latest and greatest marketing tools" that are sure to
earn us millions.
Find something that interests you, something you're
familiar with, something you're an expert on. That's the
type of product or service you should offer.
It doesn't matter if you might only be one of three
websites that offer it. Actually, it would be better,
wouldn't it? There would be less competition.
Follow your heart and you'll find your niche. Don't be
afraid to venture into something different than what
everyone else is doing. It's your dream, your business,
your expertise. Just do it!
