Twitter.

It's an unlikely name for a social networking site that some of the largest companies in the world are using for customer service, crisis communications, customer retention and one of the cheapest and most powerful marketing tools on the planet.

The free microblogging service allows users to write messages, up to 140 characters long, directly at the site at Twitter.com, via instant messaging, or through third- party applications such as Facebook.

What is Twitter?

The service asks the question "What are you doing?" While many people respond with things like "I'm taking off for lunch at Panera's" or "I'm trying to repair my printer," others have found a wide variety of ways to use it as a valuable business tool.

Twitter is so named because the flow of updates is like the chirping of a bird. When you send an update, it's called a tweet. The people who tweet are called twitterers or tweeters, not twits. And when you rebroadcast a message that has appeared earlier, that's called a retweet.

When you sign up for Twitter, you get a page where your updates are published, as well as those of the people you follow. The concept of following is similar to adding friends on other social sites. Other Twitter features include the ability to send direct messages to your contacts and to mark tweets as favorites so you can find them easily later.

Why Twitter Is Successful

One reason for Twitter's success is the wide array of methods you can use for posting updates.

In addition to the web-based interface on the Twitter site itself, users can take advantage of instant messaging or mobile phones to send updates to their home page. In addition, there are several Twitter mashups (web applications that combine Twitter data with other data) that enhance the functionality of the basic web interface. These tools allow you to update Twitter from your desktop or from unsupported I'm clients, to post links to photos, to search for particular keywords, to update Twitter from your blog, to use it with other social networking sites, and to track updates around particular topics.

How Businesses and Nonprofits Use Twitter

Businesses and nonprofits are experimenting with dozens of ways to use Twitter. Here are just a few of them:

As a crisis communications tool.

• To announce new products and services.

• To promote your new articles and blog posts.

• To follow journalists who Twitter and find out what they think is important.

• To respond to media coverage, good or bad

• To monitor what others are saying about you and your brand

• To comment on journalists' articles--particularly journalists who you are targeting

Let your heart be in your labor and success will often follow.

When you set a goal, no matter how difficult it seems to accomplish, don’t be afraid to take the risk. In life, some sacrifices are worth the challenge. So, stop making excuses. Life is too short to miss out on reaching for your goals and realizing dreams do come true. With a little effort and a little time on your part make a commitment to go for it!

If your goals and your dreams are good ones a plan is required to make them real. Develop a time plan or a target. For instance, when you know the end result you wish to accomplish, you might list several mini targets to work on first.

Your initial target plan might look like this:

If you wish to lose 20 pounds, set up a weekly schedule. The first week you might start a daily exercise program. Second week- start cutting back on sugar and sweets. Third week - try and lowering your daily intake of calories, and so on until your goal weight is achieved.

If you wish to take a trip to the south of France (or wherever), or if you desire to expand your business, the strategy would be similar. You may need to set up a weekly or monthly schedule to put a sum away toward the cost of the trip or the cost needed to purchase more space and more equipment for the business. You could cut back on your spending and put the savings aside, or take on an extra paying project until you reach your required goal. When you’ve accumulated sufficient funds for the trip or the down payment on the larger business space and more equipment, you can plan your next target.

So that you may have a richer, fuller, more rewarding life, putting a system together to target your success and make your dreams a reality may include the following seven gems:

¨ Set reasonable goals and target dates. Day to day living makes a lot of demands on you your time, your physical and emotional energy, and your responsibilities. Do not set yourself up for defeat. Master one goal at a time and do not expect instant gratification. With the onset of the microwave, and then along comes the computer and the internet both giving ways to shortcut everything you do, trying to stay focused isn’t always easy.

¨ Be the master of your thoughts. Dream big. A small goal takes just as much time and effort as a giant one. Think your goal through and keep a record of your ideas and a time schedule of what needs to be done and when. Seek help where needed.

¨ Choose goals that you are passionate about. Motivation and inspiration are powerful forces that keep you moving toward your goals. Positive attitudes are also helpful. And of course, never forget your faith and the knowledge that a higher power is available to help you reach your goal. Remember: Nothing is easy, and everything takes time lots of it. So, be patient it eliminates the stress.

¨ Stay healthy and practice taking care of yourself - first. When you aren’t feeling well, everyone around you is affected your family, your friends and associates, and your business clients. Try to stay flexible and allow enough time to work on any project so you won’t have to rush. The old saying: Haste makes waste, is often true and may even cause a serious accident. And if you are a sole proprietor, when illness or accidents happen, this could mean a devastating loss of business income.

¨ Don’t be afraid to take risks. Fear is an internal blockage that you impose on your thoughts. It is a way of making excuses for not dealing directly with your anxiety. Or, you may not wish to face the outcome. What if it doesn’t work out? Instead, replace your thoughts of fear with your own source of strength and let your inner support system guide you.

¨ Keep a list of your qualities and values. What do you consider to be your most valuable asset? Do you know which of your qualities you need to make stronger? Make a list of those qualities and values that you think are the best you, those that make you feel most secure, and give you your highest self-esteem. Some of these may include: self- confidence, a forgiving nature, courage, being a good listener, trustworthy and honest, and a willingness to inspire others.

¨ Keep your emotions under control. A peaceful attitude and an awareness of your surroundings go hand in hand with prosperity and success. When you are peaceful, your thoughts and actions come from a wide-awake place that is free of fear and confusion. You will see more clearly and act quickly. When you are at peace within yourself, you attract all that is good. You are more likely to bring success, happiness and prosperity to you. When you feel rich, you attract riches. And when you feel successful, you become successful.

Make it your goal to attract the best of gems to reach your success and prosperity!

My Own Worst Enemy

Did you ever asked yourself "who is my own worst enemy"? Do you consider criminals roaming the dark street as your worst enemy? How about your boss who's killing you mentally and emotionally with stress and harsh words? The people in office who are engaging in graft and corruption, instead of helping those in need?

When something failed to work, we have many implications of who our enemies are; but we have one common foe who is the main cause of our failures and misfortunes, and we're not even aware of this opponent. You may not want to admit it, but our own worst enemy is ourselves.

Take for instance you are leading a few other colleagues in an important project for your company you work for. You and your team belongs to the steering committee but things seem to go wrong everywhere. Who do you blame when something goes wrong? You blame the people around you, the weather, maybe even God. But we are the ones who are in control of ourselves. We can change the outcome of our lives because we have the capacity to do that.

Ask yourself, it is our fear, jealousy, greed, etc. that is ruining our lives. Some people who never managed to get out of poverty blame the government or their jobs. Some even take their anger and frustration to the streets and wave their banners in demonstration in front of parliament house. But they're too afraid to try out new ventures that may improve their lives. They drag themselves to go to work on their 9 to 5 jobs. Then when the day is done, they watch TV and go out aimlessly having fun without seriously thinking of what great opportunity the future has in store for them, if only they would try to do something different with their lives.

Fear is your worst enemy

Fear has caused many to remain frigid and to never go out exploring the wonderful things this world has to offer. Lots of people would rather stay where they are in an unsatisfied state than to risk difficulties and obstacles for the sake of attaining their dreams. They find excuses for themselves not to try anything new. Befor they even start, they start telling themselves that their family will not support their idea anyway, and so they never take any action.

Jealousy and envy has also caused some relationship problems. Some people immediately jump to conclusions without first analyzing the situation. They let their sudden emotions control their behaviors without even thinking of the consequences that may result. As a result, if they're having problems with their relationships, they have no one else to blame but themselves. They have themselves to blame, if their lives are not getting any better.

This goes to show that we decide what will happen to us and we can control the outcome. Even under circumstances that are beyond our control, like natural calamities, we can still utilize to our best advantage the things that we have control of.

For instance, you got rejected by your dream girl. Some would just get drunk and feel miserable, thinking that it's the end of the world. Some will move onwards with their lives and find the best in what remains with them. See? It's really up to you. You decide if you want to have a good life or not.

You failed in your exams? So what? There's always another opportunity. Either you just sulk in sorrow or you can study harder to get a high score in the future. It's really up to you.

Don't cry over spilled milk. Concentrate on how you could get better in the future instead of get frustrated over your misfortunes.

If we encounter problems, we can either succumb to it, or we can treat it as an opportunity to become stronger and to become better individuals. Winners would always treat their dilemmas as opportunities while losers would see problems in every opportunity and run away without a second thought.

Oh yes. As yourself again "Who is my own worst enemy?". But your worst enemy can also be your best friend. It's all up to you!
