I love to read about the people who are now making
really big Money on the Internet and started only 5-7
years ago absolutely from scratch, with very little
capital and no guidance from anyone to help them on
their way.
Now I started just over 2 years ago at the age of 81
and obviously my memory isn't as good as it used to be
when I was younger.
Consequently I would sometimes take a long time
studying a text book to find out how to carry out a
certain operation on my computer only to find that the
next time I wanted to use it my memory failed me and I
had to learn it all over again.
This taught me one important lesson, which is that if
you do get involved in mastering some new technique it
pays to carefully make notes as you go along so that
you can always do it again with no difficulty.
I could almost laugh if it wasn't so painful to recall
my belief that it was going to be easy to make money on
the internet.
When I started out having studied up all the stuff I
could find, and having bought books about how to do it,
I gradually worked my way around to the stage when I
was able with the help of Front Page Express to create
a very simple web site.
I had then registered a domain name, purchased it and
arranged with a host to accept my site and with the
help of an FTP, I bought one named CUTE, found out how
to upload my site onto the net.
With the help of more books I managed to get enough of
an idea of HMTL to be able to use it a bit as and when
necessary.
I had an e-book for which I had resell rights, that I
intended to sell to make my fortune as soon as I had
vast numbers of visitors flocking to my web site. To
set this up I had to open an account with ClickBank and
provide a Sales Page, a Payment Page, a Thank You Page
and a Hyperlink to enable the buyer to download the
e-book.
Having reached this stage I believed in my innocence
that all that was now needed was to concentrate on
getting my site accepted by the 10 major search engines.
Apart from personally submitting "Add my site" I also
purchased a software that submits to thousands of
search engines and to Free For All sites with a click
of a button and in the blink of an eye.
Unfortunately results were very sparse. Is it fair, I
wonder, to think of the millions of web sites on the
net as a desert and my own few sites like individual
specks of sand?
Now over the time that I started out, I have had a go
at selling healthfoods which apparently cured ,or
alleviated the pain of arthritis, helped prostate
problems of getting up for relief in the middle of the
night, and much more including pills to help overweight
people to become slim.
There was however one particular snag to this - this
was the fact that I had to buy about $30 worth of pills
myself each month.
I have also tried 3 or 4 other propositions all of
which consumed a great deal of my time and energy which
all cost me monthly payments for the privilege of
selling their products. The idea was that as soon as I
found two or three more to sign up and agree to make
monthly payments my commission would cover my own
monthly payment.
I spent quite a bit once more, advertising these
various products in e-zines. To find the suitable
sources to place my ads I also purchased a Directory of
E-Zines.
This is a particularly good source of information and I
have no regrets about buying it, but I am only pointing
out that this was one more expenditure. No doubt there
are people out there making fortunes on these different
programmes I have tried - but alas - it hasn't worked
for me.
However ,working on the basis that if you don't give up
you will succeed in the end, I am still plodding on.
I haven't made a fortune yet, but it is beginning to
come together and at last all the reading and advice I
have absorbed over hours and hours, days and days ,
weeks and weeks, is starting to put a few dollars in my
pocket each month.
It hasn't been easy as far as I am concerned but I must
admit to wasting a great deal of time following up
masses of emails and different opportunities - all to
no avail.
Nowadays I concentrate on just one or two propositions
at a time and getting more and more people to sign up
for my newsletter.
With all best wishes to all those who are "having a go".
