Small Business Banking For Your Business
Eric Dade
When it comes to choosing a bank for your small business,
there are many options now available. These options may
not have been readily available a few years ago, but
almost every bank offers some type of business accounts
specifically designed for small businesses.
You'll want to choose a bank in your locale and develop
a relationship with a banker so you'll have direct access
to someone in the event problems arise. In addition to
this, having a bank close by allows the convenience of
cashing checks from your customers.
Many banks have numerous accounts developed for any
financial level of small businesses. Most will always
include essential services for running your business,
including payroll services. If you do have paid employees,
it is essential that you have a business account separate
from your personal. This takes the pain out of keeping
track of all your expenses as a business owner.
When choosing a bank to open your business account, you
should take several factors into account. All aspects of a
business account can be further explored by speaking with a
representative of the bank. These knowledgeable people
will be able to answer any questions you may have regarding
the banking institution or the business account.
When opening a business account, consider if the bank
requires an initial deposit, and if so, what is the amount
for that deposit. This varies from bank to bank, but a
great deal of institutions require at least some type of
initial deposit to seed the account. Also ask what types
of annual fees are accrued by the account. Some banks
often waive this annual fee for the first year or two when
you sign up for a business account, whereas some banks do
not charge any annual fee at all. Additionally, find out
what options banks offer, such as online banking.
If the bank offers it, online banking is a great way to
closely monitor your business account. This can be done
without having to visit your local branch or calling in.
Note that some banks charge for this service. But more
and more are offering this as a free service to their
business account holders. You'll want to see what options
of online banking are offered, such as electronic bill
paying, to compare to other banks in your area. And lastly,
you should look into the type of credit services the
banking facility offers small businesses such as yours.
But as mentioned previously, no matter the type of account
or bank you decide to choose, keeping your personal and
business accounts separate is a wise move. Especially,
when tax season comes around. Having them separate will
help you properly file the right amount of taxes. In
addition to this, it's just easier to keep track of it all,
especially if your business has employees on a payroll.
