In the 1600's, a language of flowers developed in Constantinople
and in the poetry of Persia. Charles II introduced the Persian
poetry to Europe, and Lady Mary Wortley Montagu brought
the flower language from Turkey to England in 1716. It spread
to France and became a handbook of 800 floral messages
known as the Book Le Language des Fleurs. Lovers exchanged
messages as they gave each other selected flowers or bouquets.
A full red rose meant beauty. Red and white mean unity. Crocus
said "abuse not", while a white rosebud warns that one is too
young for love. Yellow roses were for jealousy, yellow iris for
passion, filbert for reconciliation and ivy for marriage.
Valentine's Day Love Traditions
You love the roses - so do I. I wish
The sky would rain down roses, as they rain
From off the shaken bush. Why will it not?
Then all the valley would be pink and white
And soft to tread on. They would fall as light
As feathers, smelling sweet; and it would be
Like sleeping and like waking, all at once!

7 Ways to Show Your Love This Valentine’s Day
With a little imagination it’s amazing what you can do on Valentine’s Day to show the one you love how much you care. Below is a list of traditional, and not so traditional, ideas.
1. A dozen red roses are always a great way to say “I love you.” If you want to show affection to a friend, yellow roses are appropriate.
2. A candlelight meal for you and your loved one. With as busy as most people have gotten taking the time to cook the meal, prepare the table and eat by candlelight can really show you care.
3. A catered dinner for two. If cooking is not your thing there are plenty of catering companies that specialize in romantic dinners.
4. A massage for two. What a great way to show you care then to have you and your love one get pampered by a full body massage.
5. A walk on the beach, in the park or in the mountains. Taking time away from daily pressures to take a leisurely walk is a great way to connect and show you care.
6. A “top 10” list of the reasons you are grateful your love is in your life. Handwritten on beautiful paper and then framed is a sure heart tugger.
7. A cute and cuddly Teddy Bear that will be treasured for years to come. (okay, so we had to put this one in here J )
Regardless of how you show you care, make sure it comes from the heart. That is the best gift of all.

”Drawing the Line in Mississippi” Oh! Teddy bear, teddy bear where did you come from?
By Oaky Wood
The story about the Teddy Bear originates 100 years ago when the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, decided to take time out for himself following some difficult bargaining over the disputed boundaries between Mississippi and Louisiana.
In November 1902, President Roosevelt, who truly enjoyed the outdoors, nature, and especially being in the woods, among the animals, set out for a bear hunt with his aides. Because he was the president, the people organizing the hunt wanted to be sure that the Presidents hunt was a success.
After a day in the woods, having not fired one shot, the President was called to kill a bear cub that was stunned, tired and tied to a tree. This, the aides thought, would ensure that the President would have an easy target and a trophy to go home with.
However, the plan backfired because the President refused to shoot the bear. Feeling it was un-sportsman-like and inhumane to shoot a defenseless cub, President Roosevelt ordered that the bear be set free...
