Online Poker Boom confirmed by Ladbrokes

According to a research study published by Ladbrokes yesterday, online poker boomed in 2003, with average *daily* stakes up from £6 million in January to £38 million in December. The study was conducted in the UK by ICM research, who interviewed over 1,000 adults during a three day period. Additional statistics were provided by independent industry analysts, Poker Pulse and Ladbrokes' own research department.

We've summarized the most interesting findings of the report below:

Average daily stakes up from £6 million in January to £38 million in December.
Online poker sites up from 30 in 2002 to 140 in 2003.
A whopping 29% (13 million) of all British people has played at least one variety of poker.
Of all 13 million British people that have played at least one variety of poker, 2.9 million, have either played or do intend to play, in online tournaments.
The average online poker player is 30 years old and male, yet women are more successful at the game, winning on average £7.50 more than men for every £1000 staked. Also 18-20 year olds tend to win more than older players on average.
