Roulette

The Roulette wheel spins around and around, with a pearl-like ball dropping down and eventually settling into the winning slot. The gambler may bet money by "dragging" chips with the mouse and "dropping" them over the desired bet on the Roulette board, making as many bets as (s)he wishes. The experienced roulette bettor may also use the new "Power Betting" feature, described below, to make bets more quickly and easily.

Bets

The payout on a winning bet is determined by the amount of the wager and the type of bet made. Roulette payouts range from 35-to-1 to even money, and are determined by the combinations of numbers selected by the player. Below are the various bets and their payouts:

Straight Up

1 Number - Pays 35 to 1 (The chip is completely contained in 1 number's area on the board)

Split

2 Numbers - Pays 17 to 1 (The chip lies on the edge between 2 numbers)

Row

3 Numbers - Pays 11 to 1 (The chip lies on the bottom edge of the board, centered on a row of 3 numbers)

Corner Plays

4 Numbers - Pays 8 to 1 (The chip lies on a corner between 4 numbers)
5 Numbers - Pays 6 to 1 (The chip lies near the bottom-left corner of the board, between 0 and 1, betting the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3)
6 Numbers - Pays 5 to 1 (The chip lies on the bottom edge of the board, centered between 2 rows of 3 numbers)

Column

12 Numbers - Pays 2 to 1 (The 3 bet places to the far right of the board)
12 Numbers - Pays 2 to 1 (The bets: "1st 12", "2nd 12", and "3rd 12")

Half Board

18 Numbers - Pays 1 to 1 (The bets: "1 to 18" and "19 to 36")
Even or Odd - Pays 1 to 1 (All 18 Even or 18 Odd numbers)
Black or Red - Pays 1 to 1 (Another way to bet a total of 18 numbers)

Playing roulette

Our Roulette wheel follows the Las Vegas tradition of having zero (0) and double-zero (00) plus the numbers 1 to 36, for a total of 38 grooves in the wheel. Thus the odds of any one number coming up on any one spin is 1 in 38, or about 2.63%.

Example bet: you can put $1 on number 11, and if it hits, you'll win $35, plus you'll get your original $1 back, for a total of $36.

You can "hedge the bet" in various ways to make it more likely to win on each and every spin of the wheel. For example: you can put $1 in the corner between the numbers 7, 8, 10, and 11, plus $1 on Red and $1 on the middle column (2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35): for a total bet of $3. It is 71% likely that at least one of these bets will win. If the Corner and the Column bet both win, you'll be ahead $10 profit.

Another example: if you bet $5 on each of 7 numbers you have a 7 out of 38, or 18.4% chance to win $145. This number is calculated as follows: you win 35 x $5 for the winning number bet, which gives you $175. But of course you must also subtract the other $5 chips which lost (6 total), giving you $175 - $30 = $145 in winnings. Additionally, you get to keep the original $5 chip that won, leaving you with $150 total.

Power Betting

Power betting is a Roulette feature that allows the player to make bets without having to drag each chip one at a time from his or her "stash." It works as follows: the player must first select one of the five chip denominations to bet with by clicking on the denomination value (for example, $5) just below the chips of the same denomination in the "stash" area. The selected denomination will then be displayed with inverted colors so that it will be obvious which denomination is selected. The bettor may change this selection at any time. In order to bet, the user can move the mouse over the desired bet and click the right (or secondary) mouse button to drop one chip (the primary mouse button still allows chips to be picked up and moved around on the board, as always). The keyboard may also be used to drop (and remove) chips: for example typing + will always drop one chip of the selected denomination onto the bet being pointed to by the mouse; and typing - will remove that same chip. These are all the keys that may be used to drop chips: + = . These are all the keys that may be used to remove chips: - _ .

There are two other features designed to make betting easier: the CLEAR and SAME BET buttons. CLEAR simply removes all of the chips from the board. SAME BET repeats the previous bet.
